Physical Therapy Compact
Physical Therapy Compact Ala. Code § 34-24-220 (1975)
The Alabama Board of Physical Therapy is now an active member state in the Physical Therapy Compact. Licensees whose home state of residence is Alabama are eligible to apply through the Compact Commission for a compact privilege. This compact privilege gives the licensee the ability to practice physical therapy in other states participating in the Compact without having to go through the process of getting licensed in the states where they do not reside.
Some eligibility requirements apply. To see if you are eligible, visit www.ptcompact.org and select “IS A COMPACT PRIVILEGE RIGHT FOR ME?”
- For individuals who are not eligible, licensees whose home state of residence is Alabama can practice in other states by obtaining a license in each state where they wish to practice.
- Eligible licensees whose home state of residence is Alabama may obtain a compact privilege in states where the Compact is in effect.
- At the time of renewal, the Alabama licensee may choose which other states they wish to apply for a compact privilege and all compact privileges will expire on the date that the Alabama license expires.
- Should a licensee move entirely to a new state, they will need to seek licensure in the state where they permanently reside.
